BEFORE YOU ROLL UP YOUR SLEEVE:
Read on for information regarding the flu shot!
The 2010-2011 flu season is well underway and with it comes a mixture of questions and apprehensions, all with good reason. Last year's flu mortality turned out to be only 1/3 that of an average year and caused many unexpected complications including weakened immune systems, exposure to toxins, and allergic reactions were reported world wide.
The flu vaccine has now been officially listed as a Category C drug, which means that it has not been studied enough on humans or animals to be established as being safe. Its effectiveness has also yet to be proven. Most people are not aware that only about 20% of flu-like illnesses are actually caused by influenza type A or B viruses, and the other 80% are caused by more than 200 other "bugs" that make us feel just as sick.
We need to realize that staying healthy and keeping our immune systems strong will be the best defense against getting the flu, and will allow our bodies to recover more quickly if we do get it. Getting plenty of water, vitamin D, and rest, as well as lowering stress and avoiding sugar and refined carbohydrates will reduce your risk of getting an illness of any kind. Allowing our bodies to experience natural immunity will provide long lasting resilience against future "flu epidemics" without any of the potentially dangerous side effects!

SUPPRESSED IMMUNE SYSTEM: How can chiropractic help?
Subluxations are a condition of the spinal vertebrae moving out of their normal position, in turn affecting the nerves of the area by pinching or pressing on them. These subluxations have been found to suppress the body's immune system. So how can chiropractic care help?
Chiropractic care treats these subluxations which have been found to suppress the immune system, thus giving it a boost. Research has also shown that white blood cells increase with chiropractic adjustments, which also help boost the immune system. So the next time you feel too sick to come to your chiropractic appointment, remember, an adjustment is just what you need to get on the path to wellness.
Help your kids "smart start" their day!
Breakfast literally means "break the fast" and is the most important meal of the day. Many children's cereals are laden with 30% or more sugar by weight, and breakfasts that consist primarily of waffles, pancakes, or bagels are too high in simple carbohydrates. These excess sugars and carbs are two of the major culprits that contribute to the rising epidemic of obesity and type II diabetes in American children. A balance of whole grains and protein, rather, is vital to stabilizing blood sugars and helps to prevent diabetes and obesity from occurring.
So instead, try a vegetable omelet wrapped in a whole grain tortilla, a whole wheat veggie pizza, or an open-faced, turkey-bacon BLT on multi-grain bread. If desired, add a piece of fruit, but avoid drinking juice. This 4 to 3 ratio of carbs to proteins will not only help maintain ideal body weight, it will improve concentration and cognition as well.
Now that's a smarter way to start the day!!
